Veterans - Priority, Resilience & Recovery

Veteran: We define a Veteran as anyone who is serving or has served one day.

Veteran Family: Any related person via blood or marriage, or past relationship, who has supported a Veteran, and also been impacted by a Veteran’s Service Directly & Indirectly.

We first acknowledge the Resilience, Courage & Sacrifice of All Veterans & their Families.

We Prioritise (Triage) Veterans & Veterans’ Families with Higher-Needs & Value to Maintain, Build & Share Resilience to Live Your Best Life!

Military Service exposes Veterans (Humans) to High-Risk Hazards that are proven to cause harm & serious injury to humans exposed to them.

Regardless of Veteran Resilience, certain injuries require specific supports, actions or treatments for best recovery.

Accessing Medical Treatment & Care for Veterans has many barriers programmed into Veterans in service, made worse by a culture that punished or had signifcant negatives impacts for seeking help.

All Veterans, with the right supports, can be open about their injures to recover and get what they are entitled to from their Service & Sacrifices.

All Veterans are well protected and looked after for injuries that occurred in service, once they are accepted by DVA.

We do NOT operate a 1st-in-1st serve or get-in-line service, although this is one factor in priority, we consistently challenge this myth within the practices of DVA, Ombudsman, CSC, other Government Departments and ESOs. We do this backed by genuine care for our Veterans, Families & Others, and further by both Risk Management, Duty of Care & Negligence Law.

We are Veteran & Veteran Family Led, representing majority grass-roots, lower ranks & minority groups within the Army, Navy & Air Force.

We know that supporting ourselves, and our Veteran Brother & Sisters is Essential for our Resilience & Living Our Best Life.

We acknowledge the fact that certain groups within Defence and Ex-Service Communities, as with the broader community, have much greater Physical, Mental, Social, Occupational & Financial Risks to Overcome to Live Their Best Life. This is amplified by both pre-service social & health factors, as well as reduced power, control, authority, protections & benefits of lower ranks in such hierarchal systems. Resulting is much higher risk factors & injury exposures.

We know Indigenous, First Responders, Culturally Diverse, Women, LGBTIQ, Young Veterans, Veteran’s with Young Children & Children, and other minority & vulnerable groups, corps etc. within the services have less Supports, Representatives, and Needs Specific Advocacy & Skills to assist them. They have poorer mental health, suicide & general health outcomes from this.

Army & Navy has more combat, masculine & front-line, isolated & operational vulnerable personnel, and cultures to match. This has resulted in more psychological injury, abuse, trauma, and significant injuries to recover from by Nature of their Service & Occupational Exposures.

These Veterans Service, Transition, Resilience & Recovery Journeys are much tougher & more complex than others. This requires Risk-Based, Duty or Care, Cultural & Trauma Informed Approaches of Service Delivery, Harm-Prevention and Improvement Actions for Better Outcomes (To Live Their Best Lives).

Live Play Work does NOT deny the service experiences of others outside these groups with similar needs & harms, but from risk-based data & to meet our Duty of Care we prioritise proportional to risk.

We also acknowledge the high-value skills, awareness and strengths of those who have Recovered, are Healthier, and those from Higher Ranks or different Service, or positions with more power and influence. That you have less risk factors, and greater capacity to support other Veterans. This includes all other ESOs, Government Departments & NGOs who service the Veteran & Vulnerable Communities. We, respect, welcome & work with them to meet our mission and assist those most vulnerable and in need.
